Introduction to the course
Hey there! Welcome to the very first lesson of this Framer Motion course! I’m honoured to have you on board (or previewing the course 😉).
This first module will give you a good overview of what you can expect from the course, and what you will learn. It will give you a good understanding of all things you need to know in order to follow this course, and will make sure you get the most out of the content and platform itself.
If you’re looking for a list of all content we will be discussing, make sure to check out the full curriculum first.
Before we start diving into the actual content, let’s take a brief moment to introduce myself first.
About Jeroen
If you are following this course, chances are you already know me, but just in case you don’t, here is a brief introduction.
My name is Jeroen [yuh'roon]
, a frontend engineer living in the Netherlands. I have been building stuff on the web for well over a decade now. I did so for a variety of companies, from small startups to large corporations, and I have been a freelancer for a while as well.
Early on in my career I felt that webdevelopment was a very broad field, and decided that I wanted to specialise in a smaller field called frontend. Since 2012 well over 90% of the things I build on the web, has been frontend code. Check my LinkedIn profile if you want to know more about what I did in the past.
Making educational content
In November 2022 I finally decided to take the jump and follow a dream I’ve always had: Start a YouTube channel. Instead of teaching only my direct colleagues, I wanted to share my vision and knowledge with the world. Teaching all of you.
I enjoy making YouTube content a lot. However, I also started to notice very quickly that making just YouTube content won’t pay the bills. The ad revenue is very little if you don’t have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. That was the moment when I thought I had to make a choice. Either stop making YouTube content, or find a way to make it sustainable. I chose the latter in July 2023 and poured in even more of my savings, to build a complete platform around frontend: Frontend.FYI. This platform is the result of that.
With this platform I want to offer paid educational content that dives a lot deeper, next to the free YouTube content I make. I’m really honoured that you decided my content is worth your money, and I will do my best to make sure you get the most out of it.
Knowledge I expect you to have
This course won’t teach you frontend or React. It teaches you to make animations with Framer Motion. Therefore I expect you to have understanding of the following:
- A basic understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Experience with React (you don’t need to be a pro!)
What you will learn
If you bring these skills to the table, I will make sure to teach you all about Framer Motion from A to Z.
The course will start out, expecting you to have zero knowledge of Framer Motion. We will then slowly dive into all the different APIs Framer Motion has to offer. For many of them we will build small demos together, to get a better feeling of how they work.
While learnings these APIs, we will constantly combine muliple APIs together to build more complex animations. This way you will learn how to combine all the different APIs together, and how to use them in real world scenarios.
Make sure to check the full curriculum to see all of the topics we will be discussing.
The course platform
With that out of the way, let’s take a brief moment to discuss all the awesome features this custom course platform brings! Then we’re ready to start diving into Framer Motion content!
